Your pharmacist can provide more information about hydroxychloroquine. Hydroxychloroquine can be taken with a glass of milk or a meal to decrease nausea. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take hydroxychloroquine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. I got a real bad sinus cold and it took over 6 wks to get rid of it, and I still have problems with my sinuses.....I believe having Sjogren's causes recurring sinutitus(not sure of spelling? I am moving on to Benylysta, but unfortunately, my doctor is having a hard time getting the Benylsta in through the hospital where she wants my first infusion to take place. I find when I do catch a cold, it takes forever to heal. Thanks Hi, I've been on plaquenil for about 5 months for Sjogren's and Lupus, and I havn't gotten any better from the illness symptoms but not any worse either..... I have not had an increase in colds, but it has not been effective in controlling my Lupus either. Thanks everyone, I got a reply from my primary physician and he said yes it can due to it suppressing your immune system and my rhumy said she has had no reported increase in flu's or colds. With an auto immune disease, you are more susceptible to catching colds.

  4. Mommaofseven, I feel terrible for you! It sounds like you need much more than plaquenil to help your issues. I have always taken double the dose you take 200mg x 2 per day. It helped me with swelling and joint pain but I also had painful muscle spasms and cramps which needed more than Plaquenil.

Jan 11, 2008 Thank you for even more good ideas. I have always taken the plaq with food but recently discovered from keeping a journal that I am much more likely to have the motion sickness if I go for four hours without eating. I never have these side effects right after taking the med but at seemingly random times in the afternoon. Apr 10, 2019 You should not use Plaquenil if you are allergic to hydroxychloroquine. Plaquenil should not be used for long-term treatment in children. To make sure Plaquenil is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have a history of vision changes or damage to your retina caused by an anti-malaria medication; Taking hydroxychloroquine long-term or at high doses may cause irreversible damage to the retina of your eye. Stop taking hydroxychloroquine and call your doctor at once if you have trouble focusing, if you see light streaks or flashes in your vision, or if you notice any swelling or color changes in your eyes.
