Plaquenil can they be cut in half

It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which transmit the parasites that cause the infection, usually in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.

I think even though they say it doesn't make a difference, I feel wierd if I don't take my plaquenil sometimes. Almost as if there is a little withdraw going on. I feel sluggish and more nauseated. It takes awhile to leave your system so really you shouldn't feel bad over two missed doses, but I can tell a difference. The usual starting dose of Plaquenil is 200 mg twice a day or 400 mg once a day, administered orally, in people weighing 80 kg or more. The usual dosage works for most people who take Plaquenil, but it is possible to increase or decrease the dose based on individual needs. It's important to watch for possible side effects and toxicity. Corticosteroids and salicylates may be used in conjunction with Plaquenil, and they can generally be decreased gradually in dosage or eliminated after a maintenance dose of Plaquenil has been achieved. How is Plaquenil Supplied. Plaquenil tablets are white, to off-white, film coated tablets imprinted “Plaquenil” on one face in black ink.

For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

  5. Apr 28, 2011 Next day or so I went to half a pill - 100 MG and taking that once. After a few days or so I went to taking half a pill, twice a day. 100 mg and 100 mg. What I do now is cut all pills in half and take 100 MG four times a day - spread out. with food. It works out well.

I had a mini stroke involving speech on March 1st, and my new rheumatologist put me on plaquenil which my insurance pays half of. She said that it was better for me. I've had no side effects from it and hope I can continue to afford it long term. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a drug that is classified as an anti-malarial drug. Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. Hi there, been on plaquenil for many years. Now I have recently gained some weight so my rheumatologist increased my dosage with the new guidelines. She told me to split the pill in half. I did read somewhere I can’t remember where it said not to split the plaquenil. Has anyone done this with results. Am suppose to take 340 mg now.

Treating Lupus with Anti-Malarial Drugs Johns Hopkins. Plaquenil and other anti-malarials are the key to controlling lupus long term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives. For this reason, you can think of anti-malarials as a sort of “lupus life insurance.”
