    Avoid sun with plaquenil

It does not work against certain types of malaria (chloroquine-resistant). The United States Center for Disease Control provides updated guidelines and travel recommendations for the prevention and treatment of malaria in different parts of the world.

There really isn't anything you HAVE to avoid on Plaquinil but I would avoid taking it with any kind of acidic foods/drinks such as grapefruits, orange juice, etc. Also make sure you take it with a meal everytime to avoid upsetting your stomach. Although the sun emits much larger amounts of UV radiation than indoor light, most people—especially those with lupus—tend to spend more time indoors, where they’re exposed for longer periods of time. That’s not all UV light can also activate lupus flares, triggering symptoms like fatigue, joint pain, tingling, and numbness. Damage to the retina, the light sensitive portion of the inner eye, can occur with long-term use of Plaquenil or chloroquine Aralen. With Plaquenil, however, the most commonly prescribed anti-malarial, this sort of damage occurs only in 1 out of 5,000 people who take the drug for five years or more.

This medication is also used, usually with other medications, to treat certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) when other medications have not worked or cannot be used. Discuss the most recent information with your doctor before traveling to areas where malaria occurs.

  6. The Sun and its affect on Sjogren's patients. I have Primary Sjogren's, Fibromyalgia and thyroid disease and live in a small town in country Victoria. I have to travel about 75kms to get to a larger town for shopping, doctors and hospital visits etc. but each trip results in a flare that knocks me down for several days.

May 15, 2017 A side effect of some RA medicine is sun sensitivity. Be extra careful to avoid skin burns, blistering, and the infections that may result. Plaquenil is what they prescribe for Lupus, Sjogren's and mild RA, so even though we aren't given the official diagnosis, we are treated the exact same. Plaquenil has been amazing for me. It does take about 3 months to notice. I was sensitive to the sun before I started, I'm not sure if this has improved because I avoid the sun completely. Plaquenil means we have to avoid sun. I still did not find any respectful doctor and am pretty much by myself. I think the doctor is being irresponsible. If I stop Plaquenil, will I get really ill? And if I start Plaquenil again, does it mean I have to plan 3 weeks in bed? Do you know anything about this? Best wishes from the ex-dancer in sweden

Aralen Chloroquine Uses, Dosage, Side Effects. Apr 02, 2019 Chloroquine is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and only a small proportion of the administered dose is found in the stools. Approximately 55% of the drug in the plasma is bound to nondiffusible plasma constituents. Excretion of chloroquine is quite slow, but is increased by acidification of the urine.
