    Indocin and plaquenil

Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia.

I've heard that plaquenil does help w/ fatigue as well as the pain? Is this true. Right now I am not on any Dmards but when I push myself more than like 4 hrs a day out of the house running errands, etc I totally crash w/ fatigue and pain. I take tramadol and NSAIDs but wondering if I need. These drugs include hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil, methotrexate Rheumatrex, Trexall, Otrexup, Rasuvo, or an “interleukin 1 beta antagonist” that can decrease inflammation, such as the biologic medicine anakinra Kineret. Anakinra is approved by the government for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis, prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. Today, it is used to treat rheumatoid

Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

  6. The two types of antimalarials most often prescribed today for lupus are hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil® and chloroquine Aralen®. Unlike the rapid response seen with steroids, it may take months before antimalarial drugs improve your lupus symptoms. Side effects from antimalarials are rare and usually mild.

With Plaquenil, however, the most commonly prescribed anti-malarial, this sort of damage occurs only in 1 out of 5,000 people who take the drug for five years or more. For this reason though, it is important that you see an ophthalmologist for an exam before starting to take an anti-malarial medication for your lupus. Naproxen Aleve and indomethacin Tivorbex are NSAIDs that have been linked to the skin condition. Others also might cause problems. If you have trouble with NSAIDs, ask your doctor if you can try a different kind of pain reliever, such as acetaminophen Tylenol. Indomethacin is also used to treat shoulder pain caused by bursitis or tendinitis. Extended-release indomethacin Indocin SR should not be used to treat gouty arthritis. Indomethacin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
