Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. Side effects, drug interactions, pregnancy safety information, and dosage information should be reviewed prior to taking this medication. After treating with plaquenil, it is. is considered "borderline lupus" and is normal. So, in my case, the disease is well controlled with just Plaquenil alone - but symptoms are still there. Changed neuros and even the Ms neuro thought I had Sjogren's due to history - positive Schrimer test, swollen and infected parotid glands, joint pain, etc. Finally Ms neuro ordered a lip biopsy which confirmed once and for all that I did NOT have SS but I had MS. I only have 2 classic MS lesions on MRI.

Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

Plaquenil questions - Plaquenil was first developed for Milaria. It has been around for a very long time. I have only heard of one person who had eye problems, and she had been taking it for several years. Most of the people that we know have not had side effects from the plaquenil. I hope you feel better soon.
