    We report the case of a 65‐yr‐old woman who developed Stevens–Johnson syndrome 2 weeks after commencing treatment with hydroxychloroquine. Our patient had a 9‐yr history of rheumatoid arthritis with multiple episodes of relapse and remission.

  4. Hi hdgott, I'm sure you can try using Cortaid to see if that gives you some relief. I'm sorry you had such a bad reaction GI wise to the Plaquenil. Mine started me off slow so even though the first couple of weeks were bad, I'm sure it would have been worse on a full dose. I'm glad the lower dose isn't making you as nauseaus.

    The most common reaction is a skin rash. If you have been exposed to the drug before, the rash may start quickly, within the first day or two after taking the drug. The reaction also can be delayed and not occur until 8 to 10 days after starting the drug. It is even possible to develop the rash after you have finished a one week course of medication. The time range between commencement of the new formulation of HCQ and the appearance of a rash was 1–30 days most reactions occurred in the first 1–2 weeks.
